The Prewer Memorial Project

When Vince Prewer passed away in December 2007, the Frink Centre lost a leader from its formative years. Vince was known as “Timber” by thousands of school children. He felt at home in the wild, enjoyed working with students and was eager to share his enthusiasm for nature. He particularly enjoyed sessions in which he assisted students studying birds that come to the feeders as well as showing students the “hidden” natural treasures along the many trails he helped develop.

When members of the Prewer Family donated funds toward a Prewer Memorial project at the Frink Centre, the Friends of the Frink Centre and Frink Centre staff set up a plan to redo the bird feeder area, prepare an interpretive sign as well as create a short trail that will connect the feeder area and the man-made pond that Vince helped create just to the northeast of the feeders.

The short loop will feature benches and nesting boxes for various birds. Schools are invited to participate in this project by building, installing and maintaining a nesting box along the trail, an activity that could be incorporated into annual or seasonal class visits to the Frink Centre.
