The Friends of the Frink are currently looking for funding from possible granting organization with the focus on:

Community Development

Economic Development

Environmental Awareness

Vision:  The Quinte Region achieves a state of heightened self-reliance in which local communities work together to ensure a renewable energy supply that meets the basic needs of the community, a vibrant agricultural sector that can provide all the food requirements, and a social and cultural state in which all people are encouraged to take an active role for the good of the whole community and the environment.

Mission: Apply community action/“transition town” principles in promoting the establishment of steering committees that identify local assets and seek business, industrial, agricultural and social investments that help steer this area toward a state of sustainability.

Goals & Objectives:

o Under the umbrella organization , with a staff community animator, establish a network that connects existing non-profit organizations in the common goal of sustainability through presentations, forums and on-line communication of what each organization is doing

o Provide information sessions, forums, and symposiums for the public to increase awareness of limiting factors and the need to make choices that support a sustainable lifestyle

o Work closely with local governments and educational institutions to ensure involvement at these critical levels

o  Work closely with Chambers of Commerce to challenge local businesses and industries to maintain or increase involvement in promoting a healthy, active community.

o  Work with local farming organizations to identify agricultural goods produced locally and those that could be produced in this area.  Work with local groups such as Harvest Hastings and OFA to assess what the needs are in terms of marketing and food processing.

o  Encourage a spirit of collaboration to ensure a  synergistic effect of combined group and individual efforts at all levels: economic, social, cultural, environmental

Measurements of Success:

A network of organizations includes all sectors: economic, environmental, agricultural, educational, social.

A very busy website with on-line forums, presentations, etc

Municipal Governments of the area are actively involved in setting a course that guides the community into sustainability

Schools have naturalization and agricultural programs that make use of school yards or community gardens to teach students the basics of environmental stewardship, growing your own food and knowing how to process it.

Industries go beyond operating within regulations and promote innovation, environmental stewardship, the well-being of their employees, and commitment to the economic sustainability of the local community.

The community college takes a leadership role in advancing the goals of sustainability by empowering students to bring innovative ideas and energy to local organizations while the local community provides the opportunity for students to apply ideas and theory in real situations.
